A/Prof. Nguyen Hoang Giang obtained his Bachelor of Civil Engineering Degree at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering (HUCE), Vietnam in 2003, and his Doctoral Degree at Saitama University (SU), Japan in 2007. He has been working at HUCE since 2007 and is currently holding the position of Vice-Rector.

He is a Member of The State Council for Professorship (Civil and Environmental Engineering Chapter) since 2020. A/Prof. Giang is also the Deputy Editor of the Journal of Science and Technology in Civil Engineering (STCE), one of the prestigious journals in engineering and technology in Vietnam, listed in the ASEAN Citation Index (ACI). He is the 1st author and co-author of more than 30 papers in various journals and international conferences. A/Prof. Giang is currently the Project Director and Principal Investigator of the SATREPS Project No. JPMJSA1701 “Establishment of Environmentally Sound Management of Construction and Demolition Waste and Its Wise Utihzation for Environmental Pollution Control and for New Recycled Construction Materials”. He is also the leader of the Frontier Research Group “Innovative Solid Waste Solutions — Waso”. Until 2023, A/Prof. Giang has been the principal investigator of about 10 projects that support technology transfer and policy making for central and regional government in Vietnam concerning solid waste management. Together with his team, A/Prof. Giang is working on making various Vietnamese Standards and Guidelines for construction and demolition waste classification and recycling.
 

Prof. Ken Kawamoto currently works at the Graduate School of Science and Engineering, and is Head of the Frontier Science and Technology in Sound Material-Cycle Society and Zero Emission Principles, Research and Development Bureau, Saitama University (SU), Japan.

He received his Ph.D from the University of Tokyo in 2002, and is specialized in the research areas of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, as well as Material Recycling and Waste Management. When considering his research carrier, Prof. Ken Kawamoto worked as a Research Associate from 1997 to 2007 at the Faculty of Engineering, Saitama University, and worked as an Associate Professor from 2007 to 2012. He was also a Visiting Assistant Professor at Aalborg University, Denmark in 2006 and was a Visiting Professor at University of Philippines-Diliman, Philippines in 2009. He has been a Visiting Professor at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering (HUCE), Vietnam since 2019. Prof. Kawamoto supervised more than 50 Master students and 20 Ph.D students for their dissertation works and is currently supervising 5 Ph.D candidates. He frequently published his research outcomes in academic journals and has had more than 140 international peer-reviewed journal papers, together with more than 250 conference proceedings papers (H-Index 25 according to the “Web of Science” of Clarivate^TM). He was awarded with the Saitama University President’s Award in 2007 and in 2018, as well as with many Best Paper Awards from various International Conferences.

Prof. Kawamoto was appointed as a JICA expert at University of Timor-Leste, East Timor in 2009, and was the principal investigator of the JST-JICA SATREPS Project on the development of pollution control and mitigation technologies of soil and groundwater pollution at solid waste dumping sites in Sri Lanka from 2011 to 2016. Currently, he is the Project Manager of the JST-JICA SATREPS Project "Establishment of Environmentally Sound Management of Construction and Demolition Waste and Its Wise Utilization for Environmental Pollution Control and for New Recycled Construction Materials in Vietnam".
